Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 May 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how TripTrop (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit triptrop.net (the “Site”). By using the Site you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

We collect a small amount of information automatically when you visit the Site, and additional information only if you choose to provide it.

Automatically collected information. When you visit any page on the Site, our analytics provider records:

  • The URL of the page you visited
  • The URL of the page you came from (the referrer), if any
  • Your country (derived from your IP address, but not your IP address itself)
  • Your browser and operating system (in broad categories, e.g. “Chrome on Windows”)
  • The screen size of your device (in broad categories, e.g. “mobile” or “desktop”)
  • The time of your visit

We do not record your IP address, set tracking cookies, or build a long-term profile of your activity. The analytics provider we use is Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. You can read Plausible’s data policy at plausible.io/data-policy.

Information you choose to provide. If you contact us through the contact form or by email, we receive whatever information you put in that message: your name, email address, and the content of your enquiry. We use this only to respond to you and do not add it to any mailing list unless you specifically ask us to.

2. How we use information

We use the automatically-collected analytics data to understand which articles are useful, which are not, and where to put our writing time next. The data is aggregated; we cannot tell what any individual visitor is doing on the Site.

We use the information you send us through the contact form only to respond to your enquiry.

3. Cookies

The Site does not set tracking cookies. The only cookies we use are functional cookies that may be set by:

  • Our content delivery network (Cloudflare) for security and basic performance
  • Your browser, for things like remembering your accessibility preferences

None of these cookies are used for advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking.

4. Affiliate links and third-party services

Some of our articles include affiliate links to booking platforms (such as Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Klook, or Viator). When you click one of these links and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. The third-party site you click through to has its own privacy policy, which governs how it handles your data once you arrive on its pages.

Embedded content (videos, maps, social media posts) sometimes loads from external services (YouTube, Google Maps, etc.) and those services may collect data about your visit when the embedded content loads. If this matters to you, browser extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger can block the embeds.

5. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. Data retention

Aggregated analytics data is retained for as long as the Site operates, with no individual-visitor records. Email correspondence is retained for as long as the conversation is reasonably useful (typically up to two years), then deleted unless you have asked us to keep something on file.

7. Your rights

If you are in the UK, the EU, the EEA, or another jurisdiction with data-protection laws (such as the GDPR or UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct, update, or delete that data
  • Object to or restrict our processing of it
  • Lodge a complaint with your country’s data-protection regulator (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk)

To exercise any of these rights, email us using the contact form on the Site. We will respond within thirty days.

8. Security

The Site is served over HTTPS with industry-standard TLS encryption. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect any personal data we hold. No internet transmission is ever entirely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we work to reduce risk.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Substantive changes will be flagged at the top of the page for at least thirty days after they take effect.

10. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or about how we handle your information, please use the contact form on the contact page.
